Lennox Head is a laid back seaside village in the Northern Rivers area of New South Wales. Fifteen minutes drive south of
world renowned Byron Bay, only an hour from the famous Gold Coast and ten minutes north of
our own Ballina/Byron Airport. Lennox Head is so easy to get to ....but
very hard to leave!
The pace of
Lennox Head is relaxed and slow. No traffic snarls here. It is the
perfect spot to relax and unwind, to laze on the beach or on the balcony.
Perhaps one of
the town's greatest assets is Seven Mile Beach, a beautiful
pristine
line of white sand, along a stretch of water that is renowned internationally
for great waves and good fishing.
Local attractions and nearby activities.
The main street
of Lennox Head is lined with a host of great shops and some of the finest (award
winning) restaurants around. Late night footpath dining is a popular
pastime amongst residents and visitors, as are long lunches and leisurely coffee
breaks.
Lennox Head and its surrounds offers a variety of sport and leisure activities, and natural wonders to help create the perfect holiday.
At the southern
end of the beach is the Lennox Headland, a magnificent backdrop to a picture
postcard setting and a popular destination for hang gliders.
Lennox Head Weather
Almost every day from October
to May offers pleasant beach weather, but the very best months for the beach are
from December to April.
Lennox Head Beach and
Surfing Guide
The surf in Lennox is excellent
but if you're looking for a protected, waveless swimming area then you will have
to head south to Ballina where there are some calm and protected beaches.
There are some excellent surf schools here that offer lessons from beginner to
experienced.
Seven Mile Beach
This is a long unprotected
beach with a small seasonally patrolled area out the front of the Surf Life
Saving Club. Rips are common right along the beach. In ideal
conditions with a light westerly there is a good beach break of around 2.5
metres.
Lennox Point
Lennox Point is the classic
point setup, home to one of Australia's biggest and longest warm water surf
breaks. The point works best with a south westerly blowing and a swell
ripping round the point from the south-south east. The long, peeling right
hand break seems to go on forever and waves sometimes exceed 4 metres when
conditions are good.
Boulders and Flat Rock
Beaches
Boulders works in similar swell
and wind to Lennox Point with waves getting up there in ideal conditions.
Flat Rock is just a bit further south of Boulders and it tends to work better
with an east-south east swell and winds from further round to the west.
Lake Ainsworth
Lake Ainsworth is a ti-tree
(tea tree) lake situated 50 metres behind the dunes at the southern end of Seven
Mile Beach. The calm waters of the lake are popular swimming and picnic
spot for young families.
Ballina
Ballina is just 10 minutes
drive south of Lennox Head and it has some excellent safe swimming areas.
At Ballina you will find calm swimming areas more suitable for young children
such as the Shelly Beach tidal pool, the Missingham Beach area, Shawes Bay or
you can get the Burns Point Ferry across to Mobbs Bay on South Ballina Beach
Road.
